Woman Wants Dog, Distribution System Delivers ‘Most Dog-Like Cat’ Possible

The cat distribution system has struck again! A woman from Texas was searching for a dog when a fluffy gray and white stray cat decided she was going to be his new owner—and she just couldn’t say no.

In a post shared on TikTok earlier in May under the username erica_marie33, the stray— who now goes by the name Thomas—can be seen approaching the poster nonchalantly and rubbing his head against her arm, begging for cuddles.

The stray was so comfortable around the poster that he quickly rolled down on his back and let her rub his neck, just like a dog would.

The RSPCA explains that whether a cat is standing, sitting or lying down, a relaxed body posture is what gives away that they’re comfortable around you.

A relaxed posture can be when your cat is lying down with their belly exposed, body stretched out, ears in a natural position, and eyes partly closed—JUST like Thomas in the clip.

woman gets most dog-like cat
A woman really wanted a dog so the cat distribution system delivered the most dog-like cat they found.A caption shared with the post read: “I think the cat distribution system knew I’ve been wanting a dog so they sent me the most dog-like cat they could find.” Followed by: “I gotta take him now.”

The poster, Erica Cote, told Newsweek that Thomas has actually been roaming the college campus for years.

“He is very sweet but is in need of some care! I have not had the opportunity to adopt/take him home yet but I will be taking him within the next week!”

Each year 6.3 million pets enter U.S. shelters, which is an average of 17,260 a day, according to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. The number of dogs and cats taken in by pet shelters hit 46,807 during January 2023, an increase of 1,744 compared with January 2022, the 24Pet ‘Shelter Watch Report’ found.

Around 920,000 surrendered animals are euthanized every year. Shelters are striving to minimize euthanasia rates by promoting adoption campaigns, spaying and neutering programs, and behavior rehabilitation.

The video quickly went viral on social media, getting viewers from across TikTok. It has so far received over 1 million views and 309,100 likes on the platform.

One user, Mt ghostian, commented: “Aw he looks like he needs a good bath and a lot of love.”

Cheese_breadONTOP said: “When I was young, I always wanted a dog but my mum got me a cat. that cat literally plays fetch with me.”

Faith added: “I’M TELLING YALL something about them gray/white tuxedos, they’re are some of the most affectionate cats! my baby loves tummy rubs, will plop down just like a dog for them.”
