Tears as Senior Dog Determined to Help Carry Groceries: ‘Tries His Best’

Determined and ready to perform his weekly chores, one senior dog slowly walked outside to greet his owner; age was not going to stop him from helping.

For the last 11 years, George the Labrador retriever has happily helped his owner bring in groceries. The owner said in the February 19 TikTok video that this has always been one of their favorite times together.

George might not be as fast as he was in his younger years, but he still trots over to the owner’s car with his tail wagging. In the clip by user @livingwithlabs, the senior dog lit up when he was given a bag of chips. Even if it was only one item, he was thrilled to be involved still. The text on the video reads that, although his legs might not work as well as they used to or that this chore can take longer, George still “tries his best” every time.

And clearly, George’s best is more than enough. He is a hard worker, excelling at his job. That bag of precious chips did not drop once. Newsweek reached out to @livingwithlabs via TikTok for additional comment.

George’s dedication to helping with the groceries melted people’s hearts. As of Thursday, the video had amassed over 109,900 views and more than 13,000 likes.

“Dogs are just angels with fur,” one TikTok user wrote, while another added: “Little superstar. This made me cry.” A third viewer added: “Aww, I thought ours was the only one to do this. I love it, adorable babies.”

Labrador retriever’s chore is something he looks forward to each week, and that is because dogs thrive off routine, no matter what stage in life they are at. The predictability of each day gives pets ease and can benefit their health.
Pet Coach, a vet and pet expert site, says that routines help lessen a dog’s anxiety as they will be able to predict information about when it is time to eat or go outside. Feeding routines can prevent weight gain and help with training.

Puppies and dogs that are housetraining also benefit from routine. There are likely to be fewer ‘incidents’ inside if owners follow a strict schedule for bathroom breaks. This is because pups will hold it if they know there will be a bathroom opportunity soon.
